I really like this book because it delivers a nice overview of emotional eating:
* Signs of an emotional eating problem
* Tips to distinguish physical hunger from emotional hunger
* Emotional eating triggers (both internal and external - this section is really good)
* Advice for how better eating habits can reduce cravings
* Managing stress
Break Free From Emotional Eating is a good precursor to the advice on BeatingSugarAddiction.com, and provides some very good advice for how to reduce your sugar and carb cravings. If you are struggling with stress eating or reactive emotional binge eating, you will do well to pick up this book!

Take Control, Take Specific Action, and Conquer Emotional Eating

I guess I've heard and read about emotional eating in passing like everyone else, but I've never really read much about it. I do know that I have specific "comfort" foods that I turn to when I'm starting to feel down or depressed. Most of all, I'd have to say I eat for energy. I understand the "pick-me-up" type of eating the author discusses. I liked the list of questions identified to ask yourself before you eat. It's way more specific than what I've done and helps you tap into why food is suddenly so alluring in that moment.
Learning the value of "habit formation" and how to apply it when it comes to emotional eating presents a clear way out of this situation.I knew a few of my triggers before reading this book but now I've identified several more. I learned about the internal triggers, too. I have to say I've applied a few of the suggested ways to combat emotional eating but never in any real productive way as suggested. This book presents specific ways to handle emotional eating. I love the "reminders" idea. No one can do it for you, but this book can help anyone construct a plan that is specific to their needs.

Good overall, missed some key points

This book covers many, although not all, reasons why people emotionally eat and for many, its not as sdimpke as just "starting new eating habits". At times this book sounds vmore like a diet book then it does a self help book, and most of the "diet" stuff is common sense information which has been covered time and time again. It doesn't address how to deal with the actual triggers so that they no longer continue to be triggers .... Only that you stop using food for comfort. For those with self esteem issues, dealing with mental health issues like depression or anxiety, or things such as abuse, dealing with the cause and addressing the root of the problem and empowering the individual with ways to heal and get over / through the problem is just as important, if not more do, then just simply changing your available foods. As someone who was diagnosed with BED ( Binge Eating Disorder ) in 1994, I can tell you, even when I am in an emotionally eating state, I will crave foods considered healthy just as much as I crave foods considered unhealthy. Many times its not the "what", its just the comfort.
