I would recommend this book hands-down

I would recommend this book hands-down! It is thanks in part to this that I passed my MBLEx! Plus it was the only one that I could find that was so up-to-date (January 2015). Considering the broad range of subject matter the MBLEx covers, I decided to study with this book in combination with practice tests on the website www.massage-exam.com, both of which I can recommend.

I began studying with www.massage-exam.com, but found that I was deficient in anatomy, physiology and kinesiology. This is probably because we did not have a good teacher at school! Her idea of teaching was to make us learn it ourselves, but I find an interactive and fun teaching style works better for me - with David's book I think I honestly learned more in less than a week than I did by doing my reading homework and watching videos in school, partly because David has such an interactive teaching style.

Watching David's video lectures (listed at the front of the book) made me want to be one of his students. He explains things in a straightforward way that makes you want to learn. It helped cement the information in my brain whilst following along with the book and making notes. I like that he sometimes gives you the layman's term for certain words (e.g. pharynx is throat, thorax is chest ...). Of course, I knew some of these, but having somebody tell you that again helps you remember it more easily. And I found his mnemonics at the back of the book useful too. I always try to think up little ways to remember things (uLna goes to the Little finger, Tibia is on Top, Biceps is next to the Breast; the difference between muscular dystrophy and atrophy - d stands for deterioration and a stands for away as in gone away completely ...)

After three weeks of fairly intense study, initially with the above website and then with the book, I passed first time round! I did like the tests at the back of David's book, but found that when I tried to take the 100-question online practice tests on his website mentioned in the book, I could not get the results back properly (there was a technical error) and I also felt that the questions were not as varied as those I had seen on massage-exam.com and the actual test (don't forget that since 2014 they are focusing even more heavily on ethics, which is something that may be included in David's tests at the back of the book - I'm not sure - but there is a greater emphasis on this on the website I mentioned, which is one reason the two are great in combination). That said, David's book has so much to offer that this was no problem for me. With its crosswords, fill in the blanks, videos, quizzes at the back of the book and flash cards, it caters for various different learning styles.

I loved the way David went through the main bones including origins and attachments and his overview of muscles is very useful. I must admit that I went over the muscles again at the last minute (the night before the test) by making a chart with muscle name, origin, insertion, innervation, synergist, antagonist - when I did this, it helped me to see connections between the muscles. David's book made it super easy to do this as he goes through each of the main muscles you need to know and also includes a couple of pages listing their actions, which is another useful way of looking at them. As David comments, muscles are a big part of the test, so knowing these is definitely important and making the chart, as I suggested, so you have them all in one place, might help too.

Last but not least, I emailed David with a couple of questions and he got back to me promptly and in depth, which confirmed to me that he truly cares about the students using his study guides. I find such personal service highly commendable and this is just another reason I would recommend this book.

Good luck to everyone taking the MBLEx! It is definitely challenging, which is why I found using various sources to study from to be the best tactic, but if you apply yourself and look up things that you don't understand, I think that you will get there! It's important to memorize various questions, but I find it even more important to understand why the answers are what they are, and this is where David's book is also very helpful.

Merlino Knows Best

I got this guide to help me study for the MBLEx. It's got a lot of information that's pretty easy to understand, and doesn't feel overwhelming like other books have. I like having the assignments, and also the video lectures. It's like I'm in a class! Something else I like is how this guide has a bunch of flashcards already made in the back, which saved me a lot of time.

I guess my only complaint would be the test questions are split into each section and not all mixed up like the actual test, but there's a link given in the book for a website that has unlimited practice tests, so that really helped. All in all, I think this is the best study guide I've found so far and I think it'll really help.

I've read Dr Martocci's blog on Psychology Today and have wanted to read up on her work and learn more about her viewpoint on the subject of bullying. I'm especially interested in learning about the cultural history and root causes of bullying and how perceptions have changed over time. "Bullying: The Social Destruction of Self" addresses and breaks down the social forces behind this problem and I look forward to learning about how the power/shame/guilt issues can be addressed.

Love It!!!

Emotional eating has been a vicious cycle for me. Only to be followed by mentally beating myself up for failure-what I enjoyed about this book is the Author gets that!! You think you're the only one feeling this way and then you realize this is a struggle for many. The author helps you to see in simple ways the necessity to reset emotionally before reinventing yourself externally. It makes sense!!! Having a journal helps you to see your growth and to notice areas you need to address. Love It!!!!

Diary of the unmotivated.

As someone who is easily discouraged and constsntly giving up when the littlest thing goes wrong this has given me renewed determination. Even if you fail once that doesn't mean you will fail for a lifetime. This was different for a good reason. If you are struggling to keep up with this society of contradicting messages of "eat this, be thin, be yourself, be better," this is a must buy.

I like this book very much. Jamie Watson introduces us over 101 quick, easy and natural vitamin water recipes without additives. Instead of serving junk and flavor added drinks, we can serve ourselves and our guests vitamin contained natural food drinks. I am sure our guests will remember us forever for our vitamin infused juices we served them. It is wonderful to know that we can prepare such a tasty drinks using commonly available ingredients like mint, lemon, ginger, papaya, pineapple, etc. It is really a great book for those who want to serve tasty and delicious drinks giving importance to health.

I was trying to find a daily food diary to be as close to the one I use to buy from Weight Watcher . WW changed there books this year and I hated it so I searched Amazon and found this to be the closest to what I was looking for . I hope the people that make this book will read this review and read what is missing from this book . First at the very first page there should be a Weight - Loss Chart ( where you can put your starting your a couple goal weights . ) 1 column to number the weeks 2nd column your weight , 3column your loss or gain , 4th column Total lost or/ gain Last but not least there should be a page at the end of each week for notes . My personal likes is also on each day a place at the top for the date ,day and week number . When I get through this book I will look again to see if I find something more to my needs or I will have to modify it as I have this one ... I pasted in the weight chart, dates etc as I explained above ...Bottom line it was the best to what I was looking for .

I never felt like the diagnosis of ADHD described my child very well

I never felt like the diagnosis of ADHD described my child very well. It seems like his problems with every day functioning and social interaction were just to exhausting and extreme. I never knew if I should be strict and firm or show him extra patience and more compassion, but one thing was for sure, nothing seemed to make it better or help me understand him any better-until I read this book. This book really gives you a framework for how to look at your child and better understand why ADHD can be so all-consuming and affect so many areas of you and your child's life. I would highly recommend this book for anyone struggling to understand ADHD better and help their child with ADHD. If you feel like things are so bad that you might be losing your relationship with your child this book WILL help. It's also a great everything you need to know guide even if your experience with ADHD isn't as severe as mine has been.

I have ADHD and it's great! Definitely a Mental Advantage!

Somebody from work told me I have ADHD and I decided to get this book....
Wow did it blow my mind! I always thought only kids had ADHD, but adults can also have it too!
What I really love about this book is they go into detail on what triggers ADHD and what you can do to 'treat' it with natural treatments.
What I didn't like it is the prescription medicines that has terrible side effects, that is why it's great they put the natural treatments in the book just in case you don't like the side effects.
Also I was reading the book, I really do have the characteristics of someone with an ADHD, kinda made me feel bad but towards the end I am very glad to have it. That is because greats like Thomas Edison had ADHD and positive traits of ADHD outweighs the negative ones!
Grab this book if you want to feel better about your ADHD!

Happiness and sustainability - try this at home!

This small book offers dozens of practical ideas and insights for how to live richer, happier lives while fostering sustainable relationships with our local environments and the whole earth ecosystem at the same time. We're all realizing that consumerism and sustainability are incompatible. Fortunately, we're also getting wise to the fact that consumerism and happiness are also incompatible - consumerism depends on promoting chronic unhappiness so that we keep giving in to the impulse to buy more stuff. Now for the punch line of this book. Sustainable happiness, or happy sustainability, are possible. The not-so-secret secret is community - our relationships with our neighbors, our neighborhoods, our towns and cities, the land we live on, and the gifts we bring as unique individuals to our daily lives. Right from the cradle, we are bombarded with the message that we must have the latest gadget, the latest running shoes, to gain the appreciation of our peers. But the reality is that this path leads to competition and envy, not to the love we so desperately need. So where instead is happiness to be found? One of the things I gathered from this book is that all successful people have similar traits. These traits are learned or adopted - not necessarily something they were born knowing or doing. Successful people are life long learners who have opened their minds to more than what's in their own frame of reference. Successful people are readers - they read all kinds of things. This book explains how to read and also gives ideas of the kinds of things to read that will help you change your behavior to be more what you want to be.

Another important part is the plan. There probably are some people who accidentally become successful. This is not the norm. This book outlines a great process to developing your plan. Becoming successful takes action and to take the appropriate action you need a plan. The book contains quite a few analagies that help describe what he means with his steps. I thought that part was very helpful.

This book shares the steps that will help you get on your way to meeting your goals.

This is a great guide to get you on track to whatever it is you want in life. Broken down into 4 easy steps to follow, very detailed and well explained, this book will help you succeed for sure! Beau Norton is a great author; I have read many of his works. He will show you the steps that he personally took to lead up the ladder to where he is now. The book will teach you how to dream big and not deny your aspiration based on past experiences/failures, how to redirect your thinking towards success, how knowing yourself is vastly important on your road to success, and how to jump in head first with various techniques and helpful methods of ensuring you stay on track.
