About the Author

Dean S. Lewis, MT, is an author, life coach, and public speaker. Originally intending to work in clinical laboratory sciences, he suffered a critical illness in 1998 which, after four months in the hospital, left him with severe peripheral neuropathy. Over the next two years Dean relearned how to walk and perform the basic functions of everyday life. With the help of corrective surgery, physical therapy, and perseverance, he is now able to walk without the assistance of any devices.

Sorry Dean, nothing new for me

Nothing new here. I believe the writer took his own advice by taking up a hobby, in his case writing a booklet. It was only 60 pages and not worth the $9.99 I paid for it. If anyone wants my copy send me a self addressed stamped large envelope and I'll pass mine to someone who knows nothing of the condition.

It really bothered me though not knowing the cause of Lewis' organ failure. He didn't even say it the doctors couldn't determine the cause. At least I can say that my neuropathy was caused from a horseback riding accident.

The one tip he didn't know of (I guess) is the homeopathic OTC Neuragen in both liquid spray or cream. It's the only thing I've found for relief. Too bad such an elementary booklet because it sounded like he could provide something new.

Mr. Dean Lewis Writes With Authority and Experience!

I have read several books and articles on Peripheral Neuropathy, but none has captured my interest as Peripheral Neuropathy (9 Steps to Reduce the Pain) by Dean S. Lewis has.

Mr. Lewis writes with authority and experience. Since Dean has first-hand knowledge of Peripheral Neuropathy, he was able to take the reader on his personal journey. He explored and provided holistic remedies for many aspects of the ailment, even detailed circumstances, that other authors would be oblivious to. Peripheral Neuropathy is a very serious sickness and so most authors write about it in a serious tone, but not Mr. Lewis. Dean is highly spiritual and possesses faith that can move mountains, and so he was able to write about this subject matter with a sense of ease and comfort mixed with unparallel humor; much of the jokes was even at his own expense.

If you would like a short read, but a solid understanding of Peripheral Neuropathy, mixed with humorous anecdotes and personal experiences then Mr. Dean Lewi's Peripheral Neuropathy; 9 Simple Steps to Reduce the Pain is the book to choose.

While laying in an empty bathtub in a Motel 6 in Vermont, Mike takes a handful of OxyContin and waits for the heart palpitations to kill him. As he starts to fade he reads a text on his phone, “Son, I love you and I need to know that you’re OK.” Struggling to understand why anyone would care about him because of his years of drug abuse, he responds, “Mom, no one can help me.” Then, in a moment of clarity, he decides he wants there to be a tomorrow and to be a part of his family again. He makes the call for help to his mother; the call that saves his life.

S.O.B.E.R.*, an acronym for "Son Of a Bitch Everything’s Real" describes the moment Anita Devlin and her son Mike realize that denying his addiction to pain pills is destroying him. It is the defining moment when they commit to the courageous fight to get their lives back. This is when their family’s road to recovery begins. S.O.B.E.R.* offers a rare glimpse at the daily, all consuming relationship between family and addiction, told simultaneously from a mother’s view and an addict’s perspective.

Everyone thinks Mike has it all because he is a star varsity lacrosse player, does well in school and is popular with the girls. However, Mike feels completely alone on the inside. When sports related surgeries introduce him to the world of pain pills, he uses them to mask his insecurities and spirals downward. Once in treatment, he learns that drugs are the least of his problems. The real problem is his mind. The drugs aren’t making his demons disappear, they are only masking them and burying them down deeper. Mike is confident that he can be sober but he is not convinced that he can be sober and happy.

Anita thinks that being a mother gives her the right to negotiate with God for her child. She sits in church and pleads, “God, I don’t care what happens to me, please just take care of my son.” She lets go of everything that makes her strong until she has nothing to hold on to but fear. She is afraid of what will happen if she focuses on anything but her son. This is an addiction itself. Anita becomes sick physically and spiritually. She is ashamed that she is afraid of what people will think instead of helping her only son, and she is faced with yet another hurdle… a confrontation with the truth that she herself needs to get healthy and learn to let go.

We are allowed a glimpse into the family’s recovery through powerful “cost” letters including one from Mike’s sister and from the innocent voice of the family dog.

Despite an avalanche of life’s misfortunes, nothing else matters as long as they don’t lose Mike. Anita, her husband Michael and their daughter Alex join forces with the Caron Treatment Center where “the patient is the family, and the family is the patient.” “Addiction is an octopus” says Anita, “Whose tentacles wrap tightly around us all choking the life out of everyone in its way. I connected with Anita from the minute I started reading.  There is nothing like the strength and determination a mother has once she realizes that her son could die from her denial. A Lesson About Fear

This is not a feel-good, preachy, sentimental story. This an inspired story of real people facing real fears. These honest voices are
raw and compelling, and impossible not to hear. Not once do they tell us what to think or feel. They invite us into their struggles and we go willingly. because we know we will also learn about ourselves. S. O. B. E. R IS ...

S.O.B.E.R IS A POWERFUL BOOK.
I have never read a book written by two different perspectives and to me this is ground breaking. While reading their journey it made me think of my life and how we all have those dark moments. It does not just have to be about addiction, but can be feeling lost, alone, defeated or any struggle we may be facing. One person's struggle within a family has an effect on each family member in a different way which we all seem to forget. Thank you to this family for sharing the honesty, anger, pain and hope of their journey.

This a book that everyone who has ever struggled with or loves someone that struggles with addiction. Hope and inspiration screams from the pages of this story. It is a heartfelt honest insiders look at addictiction, the pain it causes, the true raw emotions, and most importantly the love of family, forgiveness, recovery and hope. Thank you Anita for opening your heart, to me and truly giving me hope.

A unique and scientific way to listen to your body

I have always been a believer of ‘You are what you eat’. I have tried out many diets which emphasized on what/what not are the right foods. This is a unique read because along with some easy-to-make recipes, it equipped me with knowledge to understand my body in a totally different angle! The fact that I can control my own body and prevent unhealthy eating habits with such simple techniques is incredible. The principles are easy to follow and therefore one can transition and thereafter stick to the diet rules for lifetime.

Great Diet Plan!

The worst part of dieting is finding something that works. I really liked Leptin Diet & Leptin Resistance Guide because the book discusses some very real truths about dieting and how to combat common issues. It also includes recipes to follow and ideas for how to actually stick to a specific diet plan. The science of this book was new to me, but all the information about leptin was really interesting and made me think about how I eat and what I eat in ways I had been ignoring. I'll definitely be paying attention to this information next time I go grocery shopping! If you're looking for a new way to diet, this is a good resource to start with.

Excellent book on leptin diet! First,let me say that as much as I know about the leptin diet this book added to my knowlege.This is a well written book which covers alot of ground on the subject. I am interested in losing weight in a smarter and tastier way and this book delivers options.I was impressed with the recipes.To say I loved the recipes is an understatement.The recipes in this book are awesome and very practical.I plan on trying some of these recipes over the next few weeks and looking forward to some great healthy meals as part of this diet.Happy to recommend this book!

About the Author
Chris Cortman, PhD has been a licensed psychologist for 28 years. He is a much-sought-after speaker, has facilitated more than 60,000 hours of psychotherapy, and has provided psychological consultation at five hospitals in the Sarasota/Venice area. Dr. Cortman is the co-creator of a youth prevention and wellness program called The Social Black Belt.

Harold Shinitzky, PhD has been a licensed psychologist for more than 20 years and was on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He specializes in sports psychology and works with Olympians and athletes from every professional association. He was the recipient of the Florida Psychological Association Distinguished Psychologist Award and the Outstanding Contributions to Psychology Award. He is the coauthor (with Dr. Cortman) of Your Mind: An Owner's Manual for a Better Life.

Laurie-Ann O'Connor, PhD has graduate degrees in both clinical and counseling psychology as well as postdoctoral training as a trauma professional. Dr. O'Connor's writings have appeared in newspapers, professional trade magazines, and peer-reviewed journals. She has studied in both Canada and the US and is currently located in Venice, Florida where she works in association with Dr. Chris Cortman. Most recently, she has been instrumental in integrating The Social Black Belt program into high school classes.

You Feel Better Within Minutes

One of the most practical and useful books I've read in years. I experience various anxieties. In my case, they are not way out of control; but on some issues, they were not doing me any good...and have been hanging around too long. This book is a life saver. Practical, sensible, easy to understand instructions on how we can reduce specific anxieties. Some of the chapters cover self help to quickly reduce or eliminate the most common anxieties most of us have. It's written in a very readable manner by extremely experienced professionals in this field. And some chapters are examples and answers that worked with very serious (scary) cases. In both instances, the advice and/or case studies by the authors helped me---and can help everyone. The title of this book is exactly what the authors deliver.

Excellent book that deserves a well thought out detailed review. Will be posting one soon, after further contemplation and application of the principles. For now, I want to highlight that this book is a detailed road map on how to get past that which holds many back from having a happier and more successful life. The mind can be your best friend or worst enemy, these books have engaging and easy to understand ways to make your mind facilitate optimal living instead of impeding you.

Finally there is a book of daily meditations for grieving men which carries them through the whole year. There are other books on grief geared for men, however, none like this.

about more than grief

i was looking for another daily meditation book and i am about a month into this and find it useful and reassuring on different levels. importantly the daily messages have broad application. i am in the "sandwich generation" dealing with my adult children's struggles, my aging parents issues, and my own transitions, and i find the daily themes in this work to be a good fit for much more than grief and loss. if the messages in the next eleven months are as helpful as the last month have been i will probably start over again next year.

An impactful read and a great resource for the men in your life who have experienced loss. I read it myself and then gave it to a friend who recently and suddenly lost his father. I highly suggest this as a daily guide for coping with the death of a loved one. Worth every penny!

Everything you need to know about the nuts and bolts of Qigong practice at every level - movement, meditation, diet, cultivating consciousness and the wisdom of Qigong. You can (and should) read it one time through first, but then you will find yourself returning for references, for reminders, and for insight. Ron has taken his lifetime of Qigong study, practice, and teaching and made it accessible for anyone - whether you know nothing, a little, or a lot. If you buy one book on Qigong, this should be it. I can't wait for his next book!

Best all-around Qigong book I've read!

If you are hoping to find an accessible yet authoritative guide to qigong, look no further. Qigong Through the Seasons is the perfect guide to help you establish a holistic, life-changing, year-round approach to achieve and maintain equanimity.
It's slightly ironic that most books I've read about qigong are not very well balanced- either too simplified, or so arcane as to be almost impossible to finish. Qigong Through the Seasons has it all: it's clearly written, well-illustrated, and thoroughly researched. This is simply a "best in class" book, a must-have for anyone interested in improving their well-being!
I bought a hard copy at a local bookstore, and the Kindle version as well. Looking forward to more from this author!

Love All the Flavor

I love my blender bottles, but I really needed to add some variety to my protein shakes. The author's journey has really shaped her recipes, working with healthy foods and keeping everyday convenience in mind, she's turned in some fantastic recipes, a really good section on choosing the best protein powders, and a must-read chapter on shaker bottle pointers. Haven't gotten around to all 125 but current favorites are Coffee-Caramel and the Spice Apple Parade.

I've made a couple of shakes and they're really tasty. However, many recipes rely on flavored yogurt or juice, which aren't actually part of my diet. So I'm trying to find workarounds. Would love to see more plain yogurt recipes and less sugary methods of flavoring. Hemp hearts would be a good addition too.

I have been looking into other ways to improve my diet, general health and energy level. This book offers an incredible variety of tasty ways to do so. The book doesn't only contain a mix of recipes, but the author explains the benefits of protein shakes, the different types of protein powders and some tips and pointers. The author is obviously passionate about the recipes throughout the book and is also very knowledgeable about the ingredients within and how they benefit the body. This is a great a delicious way to get your daily vitamins and nutrients!

Does exactly what it says on the tin - it's a book for beginners on Buddhism. Very thoughtful and well laid out as well as being thoughtful and informative. I found the section on Buddha particularly enlightening (aha a quick Buddha gag - I'm sure he won't have heard that one before).

I found this to be a disappointing introduction to Buddhism. Perhaps because I am not a beginner I am biased. However, in many ways it seems to be geared towards people specifically Christians who have never so much as heard of Buddhism. I don't feel enough time was spent on any of the subjects discussed. Also the authors opinions were heavily visible throughout the book. Personally I feel in books such as these it is fact not opinion that should be the focus. Also, this book needs a lot of editing the spelling errors and strangely constructed sentences were everywhere. I cannot recommend this book to people who have a desire to learn about Buddhism.
