Nicely done

I liked several things about this small ebook. Love the name Imaginative Pessimist. The author, if he is not one, has a keen understanding of the experience of being one.

There is no patronizing 'be happy' or ' just change your frame or attitude'. There is also a keen support that, what I might call, melancholy brings to the world in art, music, authorship and deep understanding and ability to be with and really know the vicissitudes of life.

And I love that he see's and speaks the nature of the kinds of thoughts of ending I have. Not a slash dash and die, but a quiet, cool leaving of the world behind - through rest, quiet, music, art ...what ever means I can find.

So glad I did an Amazon search for a title name that popped into my head late one night. He has done it justice.

Dark Humor At Its Finest

Wonderfully done, as only a true pessimist could ever possibly do.

This book doesn't use any trite Polyanna notions about why one should not kill themselves, that things aren't "that bad" or somehow they'll get better. Part of the message is that one should not kill themselves PRECISELY to get back at whoever or whatever is seen as the primary cause of the immediate problem, or the general problem.

This would ring true when I'm having my most "down" times as a cynical pessimist.

Included are quotes from Nietzsche, among others.

About the Author
James N. Butcher, PhD, is a professor emeritus in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota. He was awarded honorary doctorates for his international personality assessment research (Doctor Honoris Causa) from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, in 1990 and from the University of Florence, Italy (Laurea ad Honorem in Psychology) in 2005. He received the Bruno Klopfer Award from the Society for Personality Assessment in 2004 for longstanding contributions to personality assessment.


Giselle A. Hass is a forensic expert and consultant for local and national family and immigration Courts. She earned a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and is licensed both in Virginia and Washington, D.C.. Dr. Hass is currently an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center, Center for Applied Legal Studies; a Forensic Psychologist for the Assessment Center, Washington D.C. Department of Behavioral Health; and a Psychologist for The Ainsworth Attachment Clinic, Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr. Hass has co-authored articles and book chapters in assessment, immigration and culture, parenting and divorce issues.


Roger L. Greene is a Distinguished Emeritus at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in Palo Alto University in Palo Alto CA, where he worked for over 20 years. Dr. Greene has worked in a variety of clinical settings and with different types of patients in his clinical career. He has written a number of texts and articles on the use of the MMPI-2 both clinically and forensically. He recently received the Bruno Klopfer award from the Society for Personality Assessment for lifetime contributions to the field of assessment.


Dr. Linda D. Nelson has a thriving private practice in Santa Monica where she evaluates and treats patients with neurological and psychiatric problems. She is a Qualified Medical Evaluator for the State of California, and is regularly called on to perform Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) on suspected head injury cases.

As a psychologist who has testified on the MMPI-2, sometimes as an expert witness and in other cases as a fact witness, I believe that this is by far the best book for practitioners who use the MMPI-2 or who encounter it in forensic settings. In addition to excellent chapters focusing on topics like cultural issues and computer-based interpretations, the book carefully addresses areas of specialization with chapters on Neuropsychological Assessment, Personal Injury Evaluations, Workers' Compensation Evaluations, Immigration Evaluations, Custody and Child Protection Evaluations, Cases of Intimate Partner Violence, & Correctional Settings. Aside from the carefully documented and immensely practical content, the 59 pages of references are a treasure to those who want to make sure they are thoroughly familiar with all relevant studies for a particular case *before* they testify rather than learning about them from an attorney during deposition or cross-examination.

Great motivation

I felt like I was reading a short story, which was really surprising as I didn't expect that. I don't have 30 pounds to lose (want to lose 20 lbs but that figure can change), don't have a problem with emotional eating (although I stopped watching my diet and exercise for over a year while I helped care for my mom until she passed away couple months ago - that was stressful, but I didn't eat much more than usual), and don't have any food addictions. great book

This was a great book. I found myself not being able to put it down or look away. I liked the sad fully dramatic twist to it. Unfortunately that's what happens, things happen in our lives and some of us eat in times of stress. This ladies one life story makes a great book. Once her and her husband split she had gained 40 pounds and felt horrible about herself so she changed her lifestyle. She did some research about other countries and the women being smaller, so she fond truth in that and went with what they were eating, no preservatives and started eating fresh whole foods. She did it with her buddy Monica who was her eating buddy. They stopped eating out and stopped drinking soda. They lost weight and they lost it in 2 months, yes 8 weeks just by eating healthy and cooking meals at home.

The author of this book not only provides the information on how she lost her weight but part of her actual journal is available to view and read. This is a real motivation factor and shows that keeping a journal will help in anyone's weight reduction journey. I have heard countless doctors say that keeping a journal is a great way to keep track of the foods that are consumed on a daily basis. I never realized or imagined how much I was actually consuming on a daily basis until I started keeping a journal. It is amazing how my doctors have been telling me for years to try this simple trick and after reading the information provided I learned how useful it really was. Keeping a journal is just the first step in the process and the author shows us this through her weight reduction journey.

About the Author

The author is a renowned physician-educator with board certification in gastroenterology, internal medicine and nutrition. He is also fellowship trained in clinical pharmacology and medical toxicology.
Dr. Minocha currently holds the academic title of Professor of Medicine. He has previously served as chief of gastroenterology at two different medical schools. He is a Fellow of American College of Physicians, American Gastroenterological Association and American College of Gastroenterology.
In addition to practicing gastroenterology and nutrition, he has been actively involved in the education of medical students and gastroenterology fellows. This includes stints as program director for gastroenterology fellowship programs (training of future gastrointestinal specialists) at two different institutions.
Dr. Minocha's interest in scientific discovery spans over three decades. His research has spanned broad dimensions of laboratory research including animal research as well as clinical studies in human subjects.
His research work has been presented at numerous national scientific meetings including but not limited to annual scientific meetings of the American College of Gastroenterology and American Gastroenterological Association. He is also author or co-author of over 100 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
In recognition of his research mentoring activities, Dr. Minocha was honored with the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Department of Medicine 2006 Langford Research Mentor award.
Dr. Minocha has been interviewed by or quoted in various media including radio, TV and publications like Ladies Home Journal, BottomLine and GQ etc.

Physician author Anil Minocha, MD has impressive credentials: Professor of Medicine, Certified - Physician Nutrition Support Specialist, Fellow - American College of Physicians, Fellow - American College of Gastroenterology, and Fellow - American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. Minocha was honored with the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Department of Medicine 2006 Langford Research Mentor award. His research is widely published.

Dr Minocha is quite clear about he scope of his book as he state in his Preface: `I am of the opinion that our gut plays a critical role in health and sickness. This is not a new concept. Hippocrates thought of the same thing thousands of years ago when he stated, "All diseases begin in the gut." Digestive and immune processes, including disordered gut structure and function as well as gut psychology, play a critical role not just in GI illnesses, but they have also been implicated in neurobehavioral disorders (autism, ADHD, OCD), chronic pain syndromes (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, restless leg syndrome, temporo-mandibular joint disorder [TMJD], migraine headache), autoimmune conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis), and skin disorders like allergies, skin eczema, acne, and psoriasis. The gut has a brain of its own, and the term "gut psychology" has been used to describe the role of the gut in anxiety and depression. Evidence indicates that the digestion connection to your overall health is real.'

Based on the above Dr Minocha carefully describes exactly what `leaky gut' means and then proceeds to explain the manifestations of this `syndrome' (that is to say leaky gut is not a disease unto itself but a manifestation of many organ systems gone awry. `The intestinal barrier is designed to be our health fortress. His book is generously complete while being ultimately readable and comprehensible for the lay reader. Great overview of the many issues of leaky gut!

I've been very interested in this topic for some while, having cared for my ailing mother (she suffered from celiac disease) and father (Parkinson's Disease) for many years until their passing and helped to identify and heal my husband's candida overgrowth and possible leaky gut. (And I, too, have begun to wonder about my own previously great health as I struggle with arthritis pain and weight even though I eat well--maybe some fatty liver issue?)

Anyway... with that as background I bought Dr. M's book and read it all in one sitting. He breaks the material down into many short chapters since, by his own description, if you skip over material because of long, dense paragraphs and chapters, you're not going to get the full usefulness of the book!

The book covers the some of the possible causes of leaky gut, the implication in *many* health issues, and goes through those issues in individual chapters with insights and references so it's easy to find material if you're looking for particular health concerns. I actually found it interesting to read about *all* the areas that a leaky gut can impact.

He makes recommendations for some supplements and nutritional approaches that was very helpful, although I would have loved even more specifics in that area to help make the suggestions more "actionable." And it's refreshing to see a medical doctor who can not only acknowledge when he (and other doctors) might have been "wrong" -- that is, recognizing that information changes and thus, our understanding with it! -- but also that he (and others) do NOT have all the answers.

All in all a very readable and informative look at the issues of leaky gut and how it might be affecting you.

Great resource for digestive health and wellness

Dr. Minocha's book "IS IT LEAKY GUT OR LEAKY GUT SYNDROME...& More" chapters are written in an easy to understand, and supported by scientific references for those individuals seeking more in depth information. I found this book very useful as a roadmap toward better health with suggestions on obtaining a "healthier gut" through eating wholesome sources of foods, avoiding refined sugars, adding natural sources of probiotics / prebiotics, learning to identify and make lifestyle adjustments, as appropriate, etc.
It is possible for people with different diagnoses to have the same underlying issues, as well as, the same diagnoses may have different underlying causes. As Dr. Minocha recommends, it is very important to consult your health care professional as one makes adjustments to one's health.
I look forward to reading other books written by Anil Minocha, M.D.

After only reading the title of the book, I had an impression, "Wow, such thorough title, this book must be very compact with minute details."

And now after reading the book I am not disappointed. It was a real eye opener.

This books packs a lot for the first time mom-to-be s or anyone who is interested.
It gives answers to following questions such as,
- What is pregnancy?
- What is expected when you are pregnant?
- What are the major changes both physical and hormonal to be expected?
- What are the detail week by week transformations that your body undergoes?
- What are the warning signs to look out for?
And many more....

While I was reading this book, I felt as if I was transported to the place beside the growing baby. It was as if I could see, sense, feel the growth of a baby from a tiny cell to a mature baby ready for the world and for the first time in my life I understood the magnitude of this difficult task. I also realized what my mum must have gone through, when she was carrying me.

great pregnancy book

My best friend just found out she was pregnant and I'm excited to say that I'm the godmother so of course I'm going to be there for her every step of the way and all throughout her pregnancy. I'm very excited for the new baby and this guide is going to has already helped me to understand some of the thing she's been going through as far as body changes, etc. When I had my daughter I really didn't read up a lot on what I was supposed to be doing so her pregnancy has given me a second chance. I love how this book is broken down by week, month, and trimester. My best friend is already more than a month pregnant so I'll be passing this book onto her. There's some great tips and suggestions in this book that every expectant mother should know.

Prof. Carla Stecco – orthopaedic surgeon and professor of anatomy and sport activities – brings together the research of a multi-specialist team of researchers and clinicians consisting of anatomists, biomechanical engineers, physiotherapists, osteopaths and plastic surgeons. In this Atlas Prof. Stecco presents for the first time a global view of fasciae and the actual connections that describe the myofascial kinetic chains. These descriptions help to explain how fascia plays a part in myofascial dysfunction and disease as well as how it may alter muscle function and disturb proprioceptive input. Prof. Stecco also highlights the continuity of the fascial planes, explaining the function of the fasciae and their connection between muscles, nerves and blood vessels. This understanding will help guide the practitioner in selecting the proper technique for a specific fascial problem with a view to enhancing manual therapy methods.

Functional Atlas of the Human Fascial System opens with the first chapter classifying connective tissue and explaining its composition in terms of percentages of fibres, cells and extracellular matrix. The second chapter goes on to describe the general characteristics of the superficial fascia from a macroscopic and microscopic point of view; while the third analyzes the deep fascia in the same manner. The subsequent five chapters describe the fasciae from a topographical perspective. In this part of the Atlas, common anatomical terminology is used throughout to refer to the various fasciae but it also stresses the continuity of fasciae between the different bodily regions.

Groundbreaking, beautiful, useful

This is a groundbreaking book. If you are interested in fascia - meaning if you are interested in the biological fabric that holds us together, meaning if you are interested in biomechanical autoregulation like me - you have been waiting years for just this book. Most anatomy atlases we use remove and ignore the 'inert packing material' of the fascia - at best consigning it to the sidelines. Here the living fascia is front and center, beautifully dissected and photographed by Carla Stecco, who continues the proud 500-year tradition of anatomical excellence and innovation from the University of Padua - home of the the father of modern anatomy, Andreas Vesalius.

Like most atlases, this is laid out regionally, with a supporting formal and informative scientific text (ably translated by the inimitable Warren Hammer), but even someone who is not an anatomy nerd, and absolutely all practitioners who work with the body's structure like rolfers and osteopaths, physios and trainers, will get immediate and lasting value from the stunning photographs of untreated cadavers offering new views of the 'real' anatomy of fascia.

This immediately becomes an essential text in our certification program.

Dr Stecco's atlas shows us, through numerous high-quality color photographs of fresh unembalmed subjects, the myofascial relationships that previously had to be inferred from multiple sources. Focusing on the applications to clinical practice, this book will become an essential reference for therapists, and part of the curriculum for many manual therapy training programs, including ours.

About the Author
When Kim was pregnant for the first time, she had lots of extra time for reading and research. She had recently quit a demanding job and needed an intellectual outlet. She had spent her adult life racing from one action-packed environment to another--from the U.S. Naval Academy to flight school to fighter jets (as an F-14 RIO and F/A-18F WSO) to business school at Duke to corporate life at Goldman Sachs--to finally, and being at home all day with a baby. While she was thrilled and blessed to be a mom, she was also lonely and disheartened. Nobody told her that motherhood would be so complex. Determined not to spend nap time discouraged, she created a web site and mom blog sharing what she had read about parenting topics, such as vaccine safety, chemicals in our food and household products, anxiety and depression for new parents, potential causes for autism, ADHD, food allergies, and more. As she wrote, checklists and bullet-point action items naturally emerged.  As a Naval Aviator, Kim relied on a "pocket checklist" to guide her through each flight. In fact, the pocket checklist, or PCL, was so indispensable that it remained zipped into the pocket of Kim's anti-gravity suit for fear that it would become detached in an emergency or dynamic flight. While parenting may not be as fast paced as flying in a fighter jet, it is loaded with potential pitfalls and important yet forgettable minutiae. Who can remember all of the dos and don'ts of modern pregnancy and parenting? It was also clear from blogging that parents were longing for concise, yet trusted advice--laying the foundation for The Parent's Pocket Checklist book series and fueling the passion behind Kim's work.

Amazing - practical, science based, easy to apply - wish I'd read this first!

Amazing. The book I wish I'd read first. Practical, down to earth, fact driven from multitude of searches (megafiles!) not pushing product nor alarmist, but sensible advice from decisions and tradeoffs on birthing options to what really matters when buying a diapers, trying to figure out how to get baby items on a budget, what is safe from foods, toxins, cosmetics..to what types of things during pregnancy have been linked to ADHD and autism...however all easy to understand, taking scientific research and boiling it down to what matters. As a mom of two now, reading this has been the most realistic approach to pregnancy I've seen anyone take. The tip sections and checklists are the best as they make application of the advice easy...and for my husband, they provide an easy way to engage and be apart of the process & decisions.

There is so much information out there, and honestly trying to find one place that has it all boiled down to what matters...you could not make a better investment for your money in buying this pregnancy book! (from one who has read a ridiculous number of them).

So practical and easy to read!

If you buy one pregnancy and getting-ready-for-baby book, make it this one! Instead of being overwhelming (like many pregnancy books), the author keeps this one simple yet still chock full of EVERYTHING you need to know. Flip to a section on baby registry, and she lists recommended items to buy, even giving brand reviews and top picks (based on most value, space saving, etc.) Phew, how easy is that? Or go to a section on hiring a nanny, and the author has a checklist of the entire process, including interview questions. Or my favorite - the pregnancy timeline that takes me through in ~6 week intervals all the relevant medical, financial, nutritional, fun tips for that stage. Those are just a few examples of the many helpful checklists! It takes the stress out of all these activities to have everything laid out in such an intuitive, methodical, and extremely practical way. Thank you for writing this book!! I'm buying a copy for all my friends having babies.

Great resource! Simple, straightforward... Highly recommend

This book is great for when you feel bombarded by information, especially as a first time parent. The author narrows all the basics down so well, with in depth research, but very to-the-point results. I wish I had had this book for my first pregnancy. It would've given me a lot more of the answers I was looking for, from everything to products, to birth plans, to what to eat. But, I have enjoyed this just as much for my second pregnancy. I really like how she gives pros and cons of so many options and ideas, without pushing any one personal belief or choice.

Great guide for the Ketogenic diet

If you want to follow a healthy low in carb, with good fats and lean protein, then the Ketogenic diet is perfect for you. I have been researching this diet for a few weeks now and this book is one of the good ones out there. The author does a great job explaining the diet and how to calculate your carb intake. I also appreciate the 7-day plan that just takes all the guessing out of starting a new diet. There is also a section on the mental and physical effects of the Ketogenic diet and on frequently asked questions. Then you have all the recipes that you need to followthe 7-day plan. The come with pictures and nutritional value.
Overall the book is well done and is a great guide for anyone looking to start on this diet. Well worth the investment.

I have had trouble losing weight for a long time - till a friend of mine recommended me to try the ketogenic diet. I searched on amazon for a concise guideline to give this kind of diet a shot - fortunately I found this book! Jennifer Jenson explains the essential basics of the ketogenic diet in a very supportive tone and I was so motivated to get started. After 3 weeks now I already lost 8 pounds, nearly solely belly fat! I recommend this one!
