This book is simply amazing! instead of just giving you a diet and exercise program, the author first goes into the explanation of how our bodies function and what are the good and bad things for us. Tons of great examples that everybody can relate to. Followed by a regimen that is age and lifestyle specific. (And it cannot possibly be easier to follow!) I have never been in a better shape in my life and more in-control of my stressful career life! I recommend this book to everybody. --Amazon

Lots of Good Information and This Program Really Works!

I bought this book looking for an answer to my suddenly changing body. It's full of lots of great information, and I definitely found the information beneficial. My only irritation with the book is that everything is based on the products they sell. If it is truly a self help book, there should be a full description of supplements and products that I can purchase on my own to complete this program, and then the option of their products. As I said, full of lots of good info, just a little frustrated. I will be trying the lifestyle plan to see if it gets me back on my track to my healthier self. I'll follow up down the road to let others know my success.
4/23/16 - I wanted to follow up from my original post on this book. I would give this 5 stars if it weren't for the information specific to their products only. I have now lost 30 pounds after 3-1/2 months of following the program. I did the boost twice, and I continue to lose weight. The program works! I have been using locally purchased protein drinks, and took some time researching that part and appropriate supplements. I feel great, and look good too! I still am working to lose a little more but wanted to let those who are truly looking for a solution to sudden, stress related weight gain know that this book will help! Good luck!

If you are like me and have a low tolerance for explain-a-thons then ...

My review has less to do with the content of the book (I just started reading it) and more about the writing and Kindle format. If you are like me and have a low tolerance for explain-a-thons then skip to about half way through the book. Don't worry--you won't be missing anything as everything seems to be repeated about a million times. I thought maybe my device was malfunctioning. I'd love to tell you exactly where in the book you should start reading, but since I'm reading this on a Kindle and this book was in no way modified for the format I can't access a table of contents--and you also won't be able to see any of the charts/tables/menus that are apparently key for this diet. Maybe I'm grumpy because my hormones are out of whack but reading this book has been a giant pain in the hinder.

Overcome the struggle - buy this book!

Our culture is filled with so many fad "diets" and endless amounts of bogus information feeding the unsuspecting minds of Americans every day. This misinformation is very clearly not the answer since more than 1/3rd of US adults are obese. I met the Cortright's during my internship as a Dietetics student and read the initial Stress Response book while learning the new program from Alex. I have since purchased several copies of The New Stress-Response Diet and Lifestyle Program for myself and to share with clients, friends and family. The program is simple, clear cut and easy to follow. Alex is an incredibly brilliant Dietitian who understands the body's chemical/hormonal responses to the foods put in it and has developed this program to help people reset their metabolism and learn the appropriate way of eating to allow for a lifetime of success. This book is very special in that Bill's history of overcoming obesity to then go on to dedicate his life to understanding how he can help others do the same paired with Alex's incredible expertise as an accomplished credentialed Registered Dietitian - you can't go wrong. It's relatable, it's educational and it keeps your interests to the point where you won't want to put it down. Whether you are struggling with an extra 200lbs or 20lbs, or even if you simply want to understand how to eat properly and exercise for your body - you are doing yourself a grave disservice by not ordering this book immediately. Read it, take notes, apply it and enjoy a lifetime of metabolic happiness!
