About the Author
John Bateson is the author of The Final Leap: Suicide on the Golden Gate Bridge. For more than 15 years he was executive director of a nationally certified suicide prevention center in the San Francisco Bay Area. He served on the steering committee of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and was part of a blue-ribbon committee that created the California Strategic Plan on Suicide Prevention.

Post tramautic stress syndrome: the final battle

This book is brilliant and compelling. Statistics on military casualties are important, but so too are case studies. John Bateson focuses on the latter. In so doing, he reminds the reader, in chilling but necessary language, that the last and greatest battle for a veteran soldier is to fight her or his demons from the battlefield. This can only be done when political and military elites grasp the fact that veterans need post-theatre support that really works. Colorful rhetoric is not enough.
