Review
"Dr Wilkinson shows an excellent understanding of perceptions and thought processes of people on the autism spectrum, which he explains so clearly in a way people on the autism spectrum can relate to. This book will not only help people on the autism spectrum to gain a stronger understanding of who they are, but also offers a way to overcome anxiety and depression by working with their thought processes rather than attempting to 'banish' or 'cure' them." - Chris Mitchell, author of Mindful Living with Asperger's Syndrome and Asperger's Syndrome and Mindfulness.
"Overcoming Anxiety and Depression on the Autism Spectrum will be of great value to people with autism spectrum conditions who experience anxiety and depression. It is a self-help guide which provides practical advice on living well, tailored to individuals on the autism spectrum. Using strategies based around Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, it offers a positive approach to managing anxiety and depression." - Jeanette Purkis, author of Finding a Different Kind of Normal: Misadventures with Asperger Syndrome, and The Wonderful World of Work: A Workbook for Asperteens.
"When people ask me if there is anything I'd change about my Asperger syndrome, I offer this firm reply: I'd like to shackle and disable my anxiety and depression. They work together as twin dragons bent on disabling confident and reliable thinking. Wilkinson's accurate analysis and applicable supports give me hope and more reason to keep working on defeating these nasties." - Liane Holliday Willey, author of Pretending to be Normal and Safety Skills for Asperger Women.

A valuable resource
By H. P. Barnhill
There is a tremendous need for comprehensive resources for adults on the autism spectrum because of the current shortage of information specifically geared for adults with this condition. Lee A. Wilkinson’s book does just that. It is an easy to read, practical resource for adults on the spectrum that aids in fostering self-understanding and teaches effective coping strategies for emotional challenges that can lead to better decision making. I will use this book in my professional work in college teaching and in consulting with families. The book is also informative for individuals who work with, or live with, persons on the autism spectrum. I especially found the appendices that survey the characteristics of empathy and the systematizing helpful in understanding how all individuals process information. I applaud Dr. Wilkinson’s premises that posit that autism should be viewed from a dimensional perspective, thought of as a condition rather than as a disability or disorder, and that “autistic traits are found throughout the normal population.” I highly recommend this book for adults on the spectrum and for those who want to better understand these individuals.

A Must Read for Adults on the Spectrum; Excellent Guide for Adults with Asperger’s.
By Angelo J De Simone Ed.D NCSP
Highly Recommended Self-Help Resource
This book is a timely and much needed resource. I found it to be a well-written and practical self-help guide. The author does an excellent job of discussing how autistic traits might affect a person’s day-to-day experiences and relationships. The CBT strategies, exercises, and worksheets are clearly presented and easy-to-follow. Questionnaires are also provided to help the reader determine where they might fall on the autism spectrum. The focus on self-acceptance is especially supportive. The book is recommended for adults on the higher end of the autism spectrum such as Asperger syndrome who may be experiencing mild mental health issues, as well as advocates, family members, autism specialists, and mental health professionals. It is also appropriate for those individuals who may require guidance from a therapist or counselor.

So I was very pleased with I found a book geared towards adults with ...
By Alexsia Wilson 'SoggyEnderman'
I am so frustrated on how few books there are written for the people with the autism spectrum, there are loads out there for people living with, taking care of, in relationships with...and so on...dealing with people who have autism, but if you are one of the people who have autism and have a desire for a self help book, it can be frustrating. So I was very pleased with I found a book geared towards adults with autism, specifically dealing with anxiety and depression, two very big problems people with autism have to deal with.
This book deals with these problems by using the Adult Autism Quotient, Empathy Quotient, and Systemizing Quotient and offering different methods which reflect the results of the tests. I fell neatly into the Extreme Type S category, and even though I knew I had these difficulties, seeing it all laid out was extremely helpful and eye opening.
I love that this book uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as a way to help people with autism, I think it is a perfect match. CBT it blends philosophy (specifically it has roots in Stoicism) with therapy, and I find that both useful and fascinating. I have been using it for various things for years, taught to me as a child by my mother who thought it would be helpful.
So overall, I really liked this book, it presents good, well researched, information helpful for adults dealing with autism, a subject which definitely needs more coverage!
