About the Author
Comprised of parents and professionals, the mission of Educate and Empower Kids (EEK) is to encourage youth to develop a healthy sexuality through education, empowerment, communication and love. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3), EEK works across the country to provide essential resources for parents and educators to teach children and teenagers about the dangers of online pornography and simple, straight forward solutions for talking about its opposite: healthy sexual intimacy. EEK believes that online pornography consumption among children and teens is reaching epidemic proportions and is one of the most perilous public health issues of our time. With children being exposed at younger and younger ages, porn addiction rates are sky-rocketing, body image and self esteem among both genders continues to plummet and rape culture thrives. In an effort to combat these issues, EEK has written 30 Days of Sex Talks, created valuable online content (educateempowerkids.org), and currently performs in-school and community presentations for children and parents. It is our goal that parents, therapists, community leaders and the general public come to understand and work together to contain the deleterious effects of an entire generation who receives its sexual education from online pornography.

Extremely Helpful to Parents of Adolescents!

Recently, my wife and I became concerned about the amount of personal time our 14 year old daughter (our youngest child) was spending on the computer, although her charter school is mostly online so she uses the computer a lot. Still, we decided to check her web browsing history and while we found nothing that would rise to the level of pornography, we discovered that she had access a quite a few lectures about sexual related issues by a somewhat hip, self-proclaimed "expert" on YouTube. I had previously heard about the 30 Days of Sex Talks books from an associate at church and once we found out that my daughter was filling her information information void by consulting less than scrupulous sources, I immediately ordered the version of the book that is for Ages 12+. After reading the book, all I can say is WOW - it would have been so helpful to have this resource as we raised our other children who are now grown and gone. I found the book to be easy navigate, well organized, and it's packed with tons of information to make parents credible authorities while not being overwhelming at all. The toughest part about talking about sexual information and issues with kids is simply getting started if you haven't made this a regular topic of conversation. I'm very happy that 30 Days of Sex Talks for Ages 12+ has given my wife and I the help and confidence we needed to get going on this and be better parents.

Great resource for parents.

30 Days of Sex Talks is a great resource for parents who are ready to start having honest conversations with their teens. I love that the book gives you thirty topics to address with your kids, but that you as a parent select which talks are right for your child. You are also encouraged to address each topic with your personal family values in mind. So, as you talk to your teen about sex, not only do your kids get correct information, but you get opportunities to teach your family's values on each topic. (The book doesn't do this for you. It's up to you to teach your values.)
I'll admit, some of these topics seem a little grown up for my 13-year-old daughter. I'll be waiting until later on those topics. The great thing is that since we've had open conversations about the easier topics, I know my daughter will feel comfortable coming to me when she's ready to talk about the more challenging topics.
I love the glossary at the end of the book. I can use it as a reference without having to research on the internet and accidentally come across inappropriate pictures.

Talk and trust is key!

My parents taught us about the birds and bees by raising bunnies. Ha! That was great and all but the only access to porn we had in those days would require a bike ride to 7-11 to by a nudie mag and only then if the guy at the counter was mischeivious enough to sell it to an u der aged kid. Now forget the bike and the embarrassment at the corner store counter, its in our home and available 24 hours a day and our kids are totally getting sucked in! In our home we are so open and talk about things and still I have filters installed on the computer and phones. I have caught quite a few things and each resulting discussion has brought on a greater trust and understanding in our relationships. Talking about it is key. Dont think your kid is immune, adults arent even immune. Pornography is a disasterous force and we have got to step up! The goal of this book needs to become a societal norm.
