perfect important book

This book is super timely. I recently jumped on the healthy/exercise bandwagon and have been spending a serious fortune on energy and protein bars, many of which are not appetizing.
In this book Camilla not only provides simple but seriously tasty and healthy recipes (complete with nutrition breakdown) but she provides alternative suggestions and substitutions. You can create your own ideal energy bar for a fraction of what they cost in the stores.

My new favorite book!

I can honestly say without exaggeration that if feels like I've been waiting my whole life for this book. I've never known what to eat for breakfast, but with this collection of recipes that are easy, healthy and delicious, that has changed forever.
You'll be amazed at how much variety there is in this smallish book. Each base recipe is followed by several variations, and there are versions for every preference, be it grain, fruit or nut. Please be aware that some but not all of the recipes call for specialty ingredients like protein powders, superfoods, etc. I have access to good groceries and I enjoy experimenting with different foods, but that may not be the case for everyone.
So far I've made two very different recipes. One was a fairly predictable combination of oats, crispy rice cereal, peanut butter and chocolate chips, a copycat recipe of one of the commercial bars. The other (which I'm eating right now and enjoying very much) is a superfoods bar, with chia seeds, flax and goji berries. Both taste great; both came together in minutes. The first called for heating a couple ingredients on the stovetop briefly; the latter requires no cooking at all. From food processor to bowl to pan, you just basically throw everything together. Pretty darn simple for a nutritious breakfast that looks and tastes like something from an upscale bakery.
I admire Camilla Saulsbury's work; I also have her muffin books and think they're great. But "Power Hungry" is on another level, because I see myself using it every single week, until I can't stand the sight of another energy bar! It's really that good. It seems like it's the book that's meant to really propel her into the spotlight...with beautiful glossy photography, nice layout and fonts, etc, it's her first really attractive book. And with the content being so good, the result is a cookbook that belongs in any kitchen. I hope people find out about "Power Hungry", because we should all be eating these energy bars instead of garbage breakfast bars from the big box groceries or overpriced ones from the health food stores.

Great recipes, but read carefully

I've made multiple recipes from this book, and most have turned out great. My favorite is Brewed Awakening. I learned the hard way, though, to follow the recipes precisely. I made one that called for vegan protein powder, but I used whey protein powder because that was all I had. The recipe turned out like power bar soup. Only afterward did I read the "tip" off to the side of the page that said not to use whey protein powder unless you make specific other changes to the recipe. I made the recipe again with those changes, and it turned out fine. So always read the tips!
My only complaint about the book is that the pages are already coming out. The binding could be better. Otherwise, I love the book, and I'm looking forward to trying more recipes.
