Everyone has to deal with difficult people in your life. Whether in your family or on your job, you are going to run across people that makes it difficult to handle them. That's why I am glad this book was written. It helped me understand my role in turning them into non difficult people by keeping my emotions in check. Good information to have for any situation.

About the Author
Marcia Nahikian Nelms is currently a professor of clinical health and rehabilitation sciences and director of the dietetic internship in the Division of Medical Dietetics-College of Medicine at Ohio State University and a registered dietician. She has practiced as a dietician and public health nutritionist for over 25 years. Her clinical expertise centers on the development and practice of evidence-based nutrition therapy for a variety of conditions including diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases, and hematology-oncology for both pediatric and adult populations, as well as the development of alternative teaching environments for students receiving their clinical training. She is the lead author of Nutrition Therapy and Pathophysiology (2016) and Medical Nutrition Therapy: A Case Study Approach (2014), both published by Cengage Learning. In addition, she has contributed to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Manual sections on gastrointestinal disorders and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters for other texts. Dr. Nahikian Nelms has received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Teaching for the State of Missouri, the award for Outstanding Dietetic Educator in Missouri and Ohio, and the PRIDE award from Southeast Missouri State University in recognition of her teaching.

Dr. Sucher received her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of California and her ScD from Boston University Medical Center in Nutritional Science. She recently retired from San Jose State University, where she taught medical nutrition therapy and was the dietetic internship director for 20 years. in addition to her research interest in nutrition therapy, she is also a recognized authority on how diet, health, and disease are affected by culture/ethnicity and religion. Dr. Sucher has published newsletters, numerous articles, and textbooks on this subject. She is also the coauthor of Nutrition Therapy and Pathophysiology, 3e (Cengage Learning 2016) and Food and Culture, 6e (Cengage Learning 2012).

The Book good , but if you want to keep try an earlier version, no difference.
Very well edited, rented from Amazon as it pretty expensive to buy, Ms Nelms -the author- has gotten into the BAD "business" of doing constant expensive repeted re- editions witch have NO real difference in between , and takes our monies $$ , that way, of us Students on a tight budget. Again, The Book good , but if you want to keep try an earlier version, no difference.

perfect important book

This book is super timely. I recently jumped on the healthy/exercise bandwagon and have been spending a serious fortune on energy and protein bars, many of which are not appetizing.

In this book Camilla not only provides simple but seriously tasty and healthy recipes (complete with nutrition breakdown) but she provides alternative suggestions and substitutions. You can create your own ideal energy bar for a fraction of what they cost in the stores.

My new favorite book!

I can honestly say without exaggeration that if feels like I've been waiting my whole life for this book. I've never known what to eat for breakfast, but with this collection of recipes that are easy, healthy and delicious, that has changed forever.

You'll be amazed at how much variety there is in this smallish book. Each base recipe is followed by several variations, and there are versions for every preference, be it grain, fruit or nut. Please be aware that some but not all of the recipes call for specialty ingredients like protein powders, superfoods, etc. I have access to good groceries and I enjoy experimenting with different foods, but that may not be the case for everyone.

So far I've made two very different recipes. One was a fairly predictable combination of oats, crispy rice cereal, peanut butter and chocolate chips, a copycat recipe of one of the commercial bars. The other (which I'm eating right now and enjoying very much) is a superfoods bar, with chia seeds, flax and goji berries. Both taste great; both came together in minutes. The first called for heating a couple ingredients on the stovetop briefly; the latter requires no cooking at all. From food processor to bowl to pan, you just basically throw everything together. Pretty darn simple for a nutritious breakfast that looks and tastes like something from an upscale bakery.

I admire Camilla Saulsbury's work; I also have her muffin books and think they're great. But "Power Hungry" is on another level, because I see myself using it every single week, until I can't stand the sight of another energy bar! It's really that good. It seems like it's the book that's meant to really propel her into the spotlight...with beautiful glossy photography, nice layout and fonts, etc, it's her first really attractive book. And with the content being so good, the result is a cookbook that belongs in any kitchen. I hope people find out about "Power Hungry", because we should all be eating these energy bars instead of garbage breakfast bars from the big box groceries or overpriced ones from the health food stores.

Great recipes, but read carefully

I've made multiple recipes from this book, and most have turned out great. My favorite is Brewed Awakening. I learned the hard way, though, to follow the recipes precisely. I made one that called for vegan protein powder, but I used whey protein powder because that was all I had. The recipe turned out like power bar soup. Only afterward did I read the "tip" off to the side of the page that said not to use whey protein powder unless you make specific other changes to the recipe. I made the recipe again with those changes, and it turned out fine. So always read the tips!

My only complaint about the book is that the pages are already coming out. The binding could be better. Otherwise, I love the book, and I'm looking forward to trying more recipes.

Kate Sciandra (St. Louis Park, MN) has been teaching personal and spiritual development for over twenty years. She is registered with the State of Minnesota as a minister and has had an active meditation practice since 2001. Sciandra graduated from the Australian College of Herbal Studies and is an instructor and practitioner with the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International.

Loved it!

What a fantastic book about mindfulness! I loved the author's voice throughout the book. She was gentle and she encourages her readers to be gentle with themselves, which I think is important. Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to do things "right" and we're not present in the moment. It can be frustrating, but she is ever reminding readers to not scold themselves. I love that. The main chunk of the book is broken up into 6 chapters, 1 per week. Each chapter includes information about what you'll be learning, the techniques, journal questions to ask oneself (which I love!) that really get you thinking and helps to solidify the experiences, then there is a summary of what you've learned in each chapter, and then instructions on how to apply the techniques during the week. It starts out slow and doing an exercise like 2 or 3 times in a week, then progresses from there. I really like the progression that she uses to help immerse readers in the mindfulness habit. The author writes that she wanted her program to be easy to do, and it sure is! It's easy to do the practices, and that's what makes them able to be integrated into one's life relatively easily. Then, at the end of each chapter, she has a section called Habit Building, which is basically a reminder to look for opportunities to use the mindfulness techniques throughout the day, and to journal down those opportunities and to also record any moments when you remembered to practice the techniques in the moment. She concludes the book with information about the gifts of mindfulness and also information about how mindfulness can help with depression, PTSD, ADD/ADHD, and addiction recovery. It's a great book, one I recommend if you want to try to apply mindfulness to real life. The author makes the practices so easy, anyone can do them. There is a standing meditation, a walking meditation, sitting meditation (last in the book), mantras, touch meditation, a mindful meal, etc. And she has the techniques broken down into manageable chunks instead of just trying to sit and meditate for half an hour right off the bat. She makes creating the habit of mindfulness manageable, and this is the best book that I've read so far about integrating meditation and/or mindfulness into daily life. I also really like the fact that she uses journal writing as an integral part of the program. Journaling can help solidify the experiences and it's a great record to come back to later. And we must be ever gentle with ourselves because, as she reminds us, people spend their lifetimes working toward this. It's not a race and there is no competition, and every experience will be different. Loved this book and can't wait to apply the principles to my own life!

About the Author

Megan Stephens was just 14 years old when she went on holiday to the Mediterranean and ended up being forced into prostitution. She was 20 when she finally managed to escape. Now back in England, she is making a life for herself and picking up the threads of her education, which ended so abruptly and prematurely.

Megan knows she will never truly recover from her horrific ordeal, but she is keen to use her own experiences to help raise awareness of human trafficking by supporting anti-trafficking charities.

Although this is a heart wrenching story, I could not put this book down. The simple fact that human trafficking exists is horrible. Her story is both compelling and sad.

Master trainer Shaun Zetlin has successfully run his own personal training business in New York City for nearly 15 years. Got me focused on my core again

Zetlin has a ton of technical details about the core. I had no idea there were that many muscles there. Makes sense though. This book highlighted my weak core area. I was doing squats and deadlifts which I thought was strengthening my core, but it wasn't enough. I tweaked a little muscle in my back and have been working it back up. I really think it was just from a lack of strength in my stomach and lower back, which Zetlin hits hard in this book. I have added the kick backs with push-ups and the mountain climbers with push-ups into a new core part of my routine. I think it is making a big difference in my recovery and I feel more agile in general. A few technical parts were a little difficult to get through but the information is well researched and there will undoubtedly be something in this book you can use. Overall the book really did change my perspective and got me focused back on what I think is the most important part of the body .

I have trained with Shaun on a weekly basis for the past 7 years and have seen his highly professional and focused approach to acquiring, maintaining and enhancing which lead to stability, strength and power. Push-Up Progression is a clearly-written, informative and highly practical guide that will help virtually anyone who is interested in their own health and well-being. The book helps explain what does and does not work - and why - and is grounded in Shaun's encyclopedic knowledge of the human body and fitness. The push up, in its many forms, has done more for me than I could possibly have imagined.

who knew what push-ups could do!

I recently bought this book because I need a routine that I can do on the road, especially when I don't have a lot of time or access to equipment. As a professional dancer, I was curious to see how the traditional push-up could actually build my core -- this isn't something I've ever thought possible from a push-up. Three weeks later, I'm finding that I can execute certain movement sequences with an ease I've never experienced before. The new-found power in my legs is being noticed by my colleagues! I didn't know that push-ups could be so inventive and effective, and not just for the upper body. Well written, great reference images, and complete with varying levels at every step -- you MUST take this push-up journey!

Thought-provoking

This book is about the paths that life takes us through. When I read some of the editorial reviews, I was kind of in disbelief--surely a book can't be that good! But it is. A book is good when, after you finish it, thoughts of it lingers in your mind--this book definitely did that. I was really surprised that for such a short book (only 43 pages), this had such an impact on me. But the truth is that this book is incredibly well written, thought-provoking, and inspiring. I will be rereading this again soon, just to see if I can get even more out of it... as well as lend it to my sisters! Highly recommended.

A Path to Inspired Living

The Path is a brilliant story that criticizes pessimism and negative thinking. The book starts with a young boy who wonders away from his family down a path. Then something strange happens, a man introduces himself the boy and claims to be the adult version of him. Confused and critical at first, the boy questions the man’s claim. What follows is a journey that examines the choices we make and the pitfalls of uninspired living. The cost of it can be detrimental and the boy sees this firsthand. The tale acts as allegory urging the reader to not waste time, to vanquish doubt, to divorce yourself from negative thinking and pessimism. How do we do that? By making the right decisions in our every day lives. No, none of us will see our futures. But, The Path makes a compelling argument for how we should consider our practical and emotional choices. This is an inspiring and uplifting book that would be great for anyone, but especially a young person. The writing is clear and full of heart and humor. I highly recommend this beautiful story.

Well Written and Highly Inspirational

Intriguing, Inspiring, Deep.
These are the three words I would use to describe Ivan Kings novel "The Path". As a book lover I've read a lot of books over my life, and very few of them have touched me in the way that The Path has. King's writing style is filled with charisma and magnetism that has you hooked from the opening line and carries you all throughout the story; from start to finish I felt like I was holding my breath. The book follows the story of a young boy who becomes separated from his mother and lost along a path. Readers follow him along his journey as he comes face to face with his future self and struggles to discover the meaning of life. Much like John Bunyan's Pilgrims Progress, The Path is a journey that is steeped with deep and beautiful truths about life and the world around us; I highly recommend it for anyone with a love for good books.
