A heart-stopping story of lies, brutality and fear. British girl Megan Stephens tells the true story of how an idyllic Mediterranean holiday turned into an unimaginable nightmare when she was tricked into becoming a victim of human trafficking and held captive for six years by deception, threats and violence.
While on holiday with her mother at a popular Mediterranean coastal resort, Megan fell in love. Just 14 years old, naïve and vulnerable, she had no reason to suspect that the man who said he loved her would commit the ultimate betrayal of her trust.
When her mother returned to England, Megan stayed with Jak, who said he would find her a job as a waitress and promised they would be together forever. But when Megan travelled to the city with Jak, his attitude quickly changed and instead of finding her work as a waitress, he allowed her to be raped and then sold her to a human trafficker.
Abandoned by Jak but still unable to accept that everything he’d told her had been a lie, Megan was coerced by threats and violence into working as a prostitute in private homes and brothels. Then the trafficker threatened her mother’s life and it was Megan’s turn to lie: sending her mother the staged photographs that had been taken of her apparently working as a waitress in a cafe, she told her she was happy.
Too frightened and bewildered to trust or reach out to anyone, Megan remained locked in a world of brutality and abuse for six years. In the end, there only seemed to be one way out.
Megan’s powerful story reveals the devastating realities of human trafficking and the fear that imprisons its victims more effectively than any cage could ever do.

Really ridiculous
By C. S. MCBRIDE
I'm sorry... I really did want to be touched by this girl's sad fate, but I just couldn't get past the idiocy of the mother and the stupidity of the girl herself. First of all, what kind of moronic and unbelievably irresponsible mother would allow her 14-yr-old daughter to remain in a foreign country with a kid she barely knows while Mom returns to home base alone??! I don't care WHAT the circumstances were, that's pretty much begging for trouble. And what bizarre fantasyland was the girl living in? At 14, she's enthralled with the 'fun' idea of a career in waitressing while having a couple of kids and living HEA with the 'man' of her dreams??? Seriously??? Right around that point, the story just basically spiralled out into space and left the world of logic and common (uncommon?) sense behind, leaving me pretty ambivalent about whatever the consequences of her actions might be. Just couldn't bring myself to care... I mean come on, folks, are we supposed to believe that both Mom and Daughter Dearest are so intellectually lame that they were completely unable to foresee the huge boulders sitting in the middle of the road ahead? Again, maybe I'm being a bit harsh here, but I just had a real hard time wrapping my head around the astounding level of total cluelessness on display here. My advice is to just let this one slide by and go take a nice nap.

Boring, whiney part 1 (I didn't feel like getting parts 2 or 3)
By deepak s fernandes
This was pretty boring (part 1) -- it has the girl talking about how her mother neglected her because the mother was drunk and "hungry for love" then turns around and says "but I don't blame her". The girl's subsequent sale as a sex-slave looks like a clear case of parental neglect.
It's a story that is important to read, but it is really badly written. I didn't feel like buying the next two parts after reading the first
