Great guide for someone looking for a good diet plan just like me. Even though I am not hypertensive, still a good way to change my lifestyle. Prevention is better than cure. Why wait to be hypertensive before starting this diet if you can make it today. A good diet book for everyone, hypertensive or not. Highly recommended.

This book was just what is was looking for. Due to the fact that my blood pressure recently tested high, I wanted to find out more about the DASH diet, but I needed a basic guide. This was it. The author really breaks the DASH diet down into manageable bits of information, which is perfect for someone looking to better understand the diet. What I found most interesting that one can approach this diet in a gradual manner and still see results. The chapter that discusses how lowering salt intake, even a little, can really help reduce pressure really got my attention and it is something I am going to put into practice immediately. Also, I learned that the DASH diet is not just for lowering blood pressure, but it can also speed up the metabolism, which seems to me another great benefit. I definitely recommend this book if you are looking to understand the basics of the DASH diet and how to implement it.

Save Your Money

This book is a waste of time. The information presented is along the lines of what someone might learn in a Jr High health class. The author repeats the same information in each of the chapters, which could actually be cut in half, but then it might not be a book anymore. I'm serious, I felt as though I was reading a pamphlet from a medical office, that just touched on the basics of hypertension and the effects sodium, diet and exercise has on the condition. Those of us with confirmed HBP need more information than what we've already been told. It has nothing to offer The Beginner as far as food choices and menu options. If you are just finding out about hypertension, save your money. You can do better.
